4-cylinder petrol engines

The newly-developed 4-cylinder engines with 1.6 and 2.0 litre displacement, which are also in part deployed in the new B-Class, use innovative and pioneering engine technology and already comply with the requirements of the Euro 6 emissions standard. What's more, fuel consumption, emissions and the noise level have also been significantly reduced.

The following new models are available: A 180 BlueEFFICIENCY, A 200 BlueEFFICIENCY, A 250 BlueEFFICIENCY and A 250 Sport[3].

  • Better efficiency: The high-pressure direct injection via precise piezo injectors and an enhanced combustion process facilitate virtually total combustion and thus higher efficiency, which means that the fuel can be used more efficiently.
  • More effective technology: The variable valve control results in an optimum cylinder charge level and therefore consumption benefits, which also come courtesy of the lower weight, less internal friction plus ancillaries controlled as required.
  • Environmentally safe: The standard ECO start/stop function helps to ensure that the engine is temporarily switched off in stationary traffic, thereby saving fuel. In addition, the ECO display in the instrument cluster provides information about how efficient the driver's driving style is, inspiring them to modify their behaviour and thereby reducing fuel consumption.

[1] Figures for rated output and rated torque in accordance with Directive 80/1269/EEC in the currently applicable version.

[2] The figures shown for fuel consumption and CO2 emissions were obtained in accordance with the prescribed measuring process (Regulation [EC] 715/2007 in its currently applicable version). The figures are not based on an individual vehicle and do not constitute part of the product offer; they are provided solely for purposes of comparison between different vehicle models

[3] Expected to be available from the 4th quarter 2012.
